		<description>Dave, I think that IS what everyone feels about it, and there are lots and lots and lots of reasons why that&#039;s not only likely to be true, but understandable. When everything is geared to Getting A Job, not getting one is going to feel like failure.

What I am suggesting is that we can question that assumption, not in an airy-fairy &quot;nothing bad ever happens so we should all be happy&quot; way, but in a &quot;do I really actually agree with the premises of these thoughts?&quot; kind of way.

You have my sympathy and compassion for being where you are, right now, in all the senses of that.</description>

Fortunately, all technical material, so it&#039;s potentially still useful.

I&#039;ll be reading more.  Failing to obtain a faculty position at a decent school is just that.  It&#039;s failure. No matter what anyone _says_ about, that&#039;s what everyone privately feels about it.</description>
