Dances With Books, I guess I'm not surprised something hasn't happened sooner only because most people don't snap in violent ways. That being said, I'm with you on doubting that anyone will really reform tenure any time soon. I like a lot of what Dean Dad has to say on the matter of tenure, but he's singing into the wind.

And for the record, pseudonyms are always welcome here. :-)

I hate to say this, but I am actually a bit surprised something like this has not happened sooner. Given the nature of the tenure process as it is practiced now, it is a bit of a miracle more people have not "snapped." Sad thing is that no one will really move to address the issue of tenure and reforming it, instead they will focus on the sensational angle of her as a shooter in academia. I say that as someone who is not a fan of tenure either (I left my doctoral program to do something else), and I serve "at the pleasure" of my administration. So I do find it hard to be sympathetic for those who do have tenure and can get away with telling their communities to go eff themselves because they do not want to follow a departmental goal or whatever the petty excuse of the day happens to be. And since I do serve "at the pleasure" of the administration, you will forgive me having to use my pseudonym.
